Welcome to Gentiana Golden Retrievers

Beryl and Frank welcome you to Gentiana Golden Retrievers and hope you enjoy browsing the website. We plan to expand our website constantly so please keep in touch.
We "all" live in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the shores of Morecambe Bay, 7 miles from the Cumbrian border and only 30 minutes from the beautiful Lake District or Yorkshire Dales.

The photos show both of us and our "lovelies" over the past 19 years and may suggest to you the reason for our dedication to "Goldens." Above all, a wonderful temperament, a Golden Retriever is a "go-anywhere, do anything - always wanting to be with you kind of dog." The perfect companion.

Our first initiation to Golden Retrievers in 1990 via Otterscroft Gruinard (Major) - a son of Sh Ch Jobeka Jasper of Nortonwood, focused our minds on this amazing breed. We had Major for 13 wonderful years and still feel that he is with us when we re-visit favourite places. Together with Major and 3 years later, Beamsley Becky (Tara), a grand-daughter of Sh Ch Jobeka Jasper joined the "team," and at almost 12 years old she sadly left us to join Major. Gartraith Dream Keeper at Gentiana, (Winston), a son of Sh Ch Elswood The Highlander, followed, maintaining the Nortonwood line and is a very handsome and happy 6 years old dog.

Professional commitments have kept us busy and prevented us from being able to devote time to breeding which is a shame considering the quality of our dogs. Frank was busy as an Accountant in Melbourne, Australia and Beryl was even more busy as Head Teacher of a Primary School in Cumbria.

Retirement brought its rewards and we set up our breeding programme as Founder Members of the Accredited Breeder Scheme of the Kennel Club, under the banner of "Gentiana" from the name given to our lovely 4 year old girl - who was born in Spring and is as beautiful as a Spring Alpine flower - Gentian of course: Kennel name Gartraith Gentian Image at Gentiana (Genny.)
Our foundations bitches of the highest quality have blossomed into two beautiful girls. They have been doing very well in the show ring. Clementina produced a beautiful litter of 6 puppies in June 2007.

We mated Shiana to Sh Ch Shardanell Talk O'The Town at Ipcress J.W. (Teddy.) Teddy is a beautiful boy with a wonderful temperament and puppies sired by him were born on the 9th February 2008. There were 6 puppies - 4 dogs and 2 bitches.

Mitcharron Memphis Mist for Gentiana (Shiana), joined us at 7 weeks old in May 2005.
She was quickly followed by Abnalls Summer Dawn for Gentiana (Clementina) and the pedigree of these two girls leaves no doubt as to their excellence.
On 24th August '06, Mitcharron River Phoenix for Gentiana came to us from the Mitcharron Kennel in North Wales aged 7 weeks. His call name is Alexander, and almost 2 years later Alexander has grown into a fine handsome boy and has become a firm playmate for Winston.
At 6 months old he took Reserve in the Puppy Class at Clitheroe and District Kennel Association Open Show, and 3rd in Golden Retriever Minor Puppy at Border Counties Gundog Show on 28th January 2007.
After a lay-out of 6 months he is back in the Show Ring and doing rather well.
At his first show on 9th October 2007 he achieved 3rd place in an all breeds Junior class of 29 entrants. Then on13th October 2007 he achieved 1st in Breed Junior class.. You can follow Alexander's progress in the Show Ring on our Show Results Page.
Alexander is available for stud to approved bitches. Fertility certified 20th March 2008.
